Today I went to the Cathedral just off Hyde Park, and managed to
stumble in on a service. A nice man gave me a miraculous medal afterwards as a gift, as I obviously looked like a tourist. The building itself was very impressive, just the sort of thing we'd get back home, but obviously built with local stone, which makes the whole thing an earthy brown colour. Stained glass, big arches, pipe organs. All very nice. I hope the Pope likes it when he arrives in 2008.
Then I wandered up the road to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It's also impressive, housing lots of paintings and
sculptures by Australian artists and by the big names like Monet, Van Gogh, Rodin and Pissarro (just picking the people I recognised anyway). I really liked this statue of a man wrestling a snake.
